Hyderabad: Telangana’s economy, which was about $187 billion in 2023-24, is projected to double by 2030, creating 16 lakh job opportunities across sectors. Emerging industries such as life sciences, IT, renewable energy, electric mobility, and defense are expected to generate five lakh of these jobs, according to a report.
CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) Telangana, in collaboration with EY-Parthenon, officially released a report titled, ‘Bridging the Gap: Integrating Skilling into Telangana’s Education System,’ during CII Telangana Edu Summit, the fifth edition of its annual flagship event, held in Hyderabad on Friday.
The report provides analysis of the State’s education sector. It highlights emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities, emphasizing the need to integrate vocational training and industry-aligned skills into the curriculum.
The report further mentions that Telangana has the highest year-on-year real GDP growth (9.2 per cent) among Indian States. This momentum is driven by strategic investments in education, infrastructure and skilling initiatives. However, there is a need for skills orientation in traditional and emerging sectors in Telangana as 16 lakh new jobs are likely to be added by 2030 in various sectors.
Delivering the opening remarks for the Edu Summit, Sai Prasad, Chairman, CII Telangana, said: “CII has consistently advocated for strategic policy recommendations aimed at positioning Telangana as a $1 trillion economy. We believe that fostering an ecosystem conducive to sustainable growth requires a multi-faceted approach, including enhanced industry-academia collaboration. In this context, one of the key areas we are focusing on is the integration of industry internships.”
Talking about the report, Dr Avantika Tomar, Partner, EY-Parthenon, said: “Telangana has several opportunity areas in higher and skill education, including aligning academic curricula with industry skill demands, strengthening industry partnerships for internships, enhancing the focus on soft skills, and developing more structured course groupings.”
After the inaugural session, thought leaders shared their thoughts on Building Skills for Tomorrow, New Age Technologies for Tomorrow: Enabling Industry Collaborations, and Nurturing Students for Global Job Markets. The summit, with the theme, ‘Skills for Tomorrow: Integrating Education, Employment & Global Competence,’ concluded with a valedictory session on Developing Talent of Tomorrow through reimagining Pedagogy. Academicians, senior government officials, Industry members, principals, and faculty members attended the event.
